Insurance of the Ukrainian agricultural sector: Current status and development prospects

Importance The article discusses the issues of insurance protection of agribusiness in Ukraine.
Objectives The article aims to study the current status and general trends in the insurance of the agricultural sector of the Ukrainian economy in 2006–2016 (with detailed coverage of the situation in 2016), and identify further prospects for the operation of this industry.
Methods For the study, I used the economic and statistical research methods, in particular the monographic, comparison, tabular, graphical, and scientific generalization ones.
Results The article highlights the main problems of insurance products for agriculture and also identifies activities concerning the prospects for the development of insurance for the agrarian sector of the Ukrainian economy. The article notes that in 2006–2015, the agricultural insurance market showed a downward trend in all real indicators. However, the analysis of the situation in the Ukrainian agricultural insurance market in 2016 finds a certain recovery and improvement in the quality of the latter.
Conclusions and Relevance The agriculture insurance system in Ukraine requires a significant improvement to be efficient and practical and appropriate for the management of agricultural risks.
