Subject This article examines the economic development of Russia during the latter half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when in the country, capitalism was formed as a self-supporting social and economic structure.
Objectives The article aims to show the particular characteristics of Russia's capitalist development and growth its industrial power against the backdrop of the preservation of feudalism and etatism carryovers.
Methods To examine the achievements, success and blunders of the capitalist relations of the Russian Empire in various branches of the national economy, I used the problematic-chronological and statistical methods.
Results The article describes the determinants for Russian modernization between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Relevance The study's findings are used in lectures and workshops on the Economic History and History of Russia basic studies.
