Importance The article discusses principal aspects of the national economic security and food security as its constituent. We put a special focus on the Primorsky Krai from perspectives of the region's food security. Objectives The research analyzes the current food security of the Primorsky Krai. Methods The research involves methods of data analysis and comparison and identifies groups of food products which the Primorsky Krai possesses in a sufficient and limited amount. We study theoretical material on the region’s economic and food security and refer to official statistics on foreign trade in goods and services in the Russian regions. Results Having studied the theoretical material and analyzed statistical data on the food security of the Primorsky Krai in crop planting and animal husbandry, we found the main challenges requiring additional and regular activities and programs to reinforce the region’s food security. Conclusions and Relevance The food security in the Primorsky Krai poses one of the most vital problems for the region’s economic development today. The Primorsky Krai currently depends on imported food, thus raising concerns about the economic security there.
