Subject The article addresses the problems of food availability for the population of the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic. Due to low bioclimatic potential of agriculture, the regions classified as the Extreme North and territories equivalent to them need special treatment and support on the part of the Federal Government. Objectives The aim is to estimate food safety of the constituent entity, and on the basis of obtained results, propose a methodological approach including an algorithm of actions to solve the problem. Methods I apply the methods of expert evaluation, logical and comparative analysis based on information and statistical data review. Results The food security analysis enables to assess social changes at the regional level and reflects basic aspects of the level and life quality of the population, especially in regions with severe climatic conditions. Conclusions The findings can be used to design State and municipal programs aimed at agro-industrial complex development, ensure access to adequate food for people living in the Far North and similar areas, and serve as indicators of federal and regional programs implementation in the field of agro-industrial complex development.
