Subject. This article discusses the features of the development of alternative energy in Russia.
Objectives. The article aims to summarize the foreign practices of implementing government policy in the field of alternative energy.
Methods. For the study, we used systematization and generalization.
Results. The article shows that in Russia, programmes of government support for alternative energy are aimed at attracting private investment and improving the efficiency of resource use. The main problems are related to the legal regulation and assessment of the efficiency of alternative energy sources.
Conclusions. Programmes aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of alternative energy for the end consumer, as well as projects for the development of single large projects that can be scaled up over time, are the most relevant for Russia.
