Subject As a result of inhomogeneous development of banking infrastructure, banking institutions get products of different degree of quality. Those having access to a more efficient infrastructure are in more favorable business environment. This leads to increased competition and improved quality of banking services. The subject of the article is the classification of banking infrastructure.
Objectives The study aims to build a qualitative classification of banking infrastructure.
Methods The study rests on the methods of scientific abstraction, synthesis and analysis, the systems approach, and modeling.
Results The article presents several viewpoints and analyzes disputes on the subject. I offer a unique approach to the classification of banking infrastructure based on the sectoral division of the banking market. Under this approach, the infrastructure of the banking market is classified as the infrastructure of deposit services, credit services, investment services, settlement and cash services, consulting services, etc. The findings may be applied in developing and implementing measures aimed at perfecting the infrastructure of the Russian banking market.
Conclusions One of the most promising areas of the banking sector is the improvement of the quality of services provided by the banking institutions infrastructure. The competition of the infrastructure institutions may serve as an indicator of the banking infrastructure development. The offered classification will enable to assess the overall level of the banking infrastructure development and identify problem segments requiring close attention of the main regulator and other banking market players.
