Importance The Russian market faces a very important challenge of searching for and recruiting highly qualified professionals for companies.
Objectives The research compares principal requirements in the global and domestic labor market to the contemporary professional. It identifies employers' preferences and requirements in relation to newcomers (especially young professionals).
Methods We draw upon analysis and comparison methods to evaluate the preparation, growing up of young professionals in the process of shifting from the Soviet system of specialists toward a new two-tier education system in the Russian higher professional training (bachelor and master). We also consider the current unstable situation in the labor market.
Results We scrutinized requirements to young professionals without job experience or little experience in the Russian labor market as based on data of the leading national recruitment agencies.
Conclusions and Relevance Employers often require such professional and personal qualities in employees as stress resistance, personal growth, good command of foreign languages, etc., which are not completely taught at schools, colleges, and universities. The article refers to all aspects of professional activities, being interesting for young specialists, who definitely need to know employers' requirements they are to meet.
