Subject The competitiveness growth becomes a very vital issue as the competition in the high-tech production market intensifies, industrial intelligence emerges and some States impose restrictions and sanctions against the Russian companies. Objectives The research attempts to create the method for making high-tech products more competitive by protecting sensitive developer's information through deceptive and bogus data leakage to competitors. Methods The research employs methods of systems analysis and proposes a method to improve the competitiveness of high-tech products in question. The method is synthesized through the mathematical apparatus of the probability theory and mathematical statistics. Results We devised an original method for improving the competitiveness of innovation R&D through critical data protection. As part of the proposed method, we analyzed various data protection options in case of industrial intelligence, sanctions and non-market methods of competition. The article describes the substitute of products in question for subsequent misrepresentation to competitors and evaluates its efficacy and possible detriment from competitors' actions. We also propose an algorithm for assigning numerical values of quantitative characteristics of the substitute. Conclusions and Relevance The proposed method supplements the existing critical data protection approaches through bogus data leakage. The method draws upon the known mathematical apparatus and can make long-term capital expenditures in high-tech product development more effective. The method is rather easy to practice if professional experts are involved and expert panels are formed. It should be used in combination with other data protection methods.
