Subject. This article discusses the prospects for the use of alternative energy sources and the problem of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Objectives. The article aims to assess the potential of hydrogen energy in terms of ensuring economic growth in Russia.
Methods. For the study we used the methods of systems, comparative, structural, and logical analyses.
Conclusions. In Russia, there are strategic prerequisites for the development of hydrogen energy, and one of them is a large area of territories that are subject to special requirements for environmental friendliness. Alternative energy sources can be used to produce hydrogen, which will reduce the environmental stress.
