Importance The article examines the international economic dimension of cooperation between Russia and the countries of the Central Asia region.
Objectives We attempted to study the causes of uneven development of regional actors, identify the motivational prerequisites for economic cooperation, and work out certain proposals for further convergence of these States through the Eurasian integration.
Methods Our study involves the methods of comparative historical and logic analyses.
Conclusions Russia and Central Asia countries should adopt a balanced course in bilateral and multilateral formats, because the international and regional trade and economic cooperation is a complex process that should be based not only on achieving short-term economic effects, but also on an objective assessment of the probable geopolitical consequences. So there is a need for serious conceptualization and interpretation of the Eurasian integration based on the positive global experience and strategic conservation of traditional alliances.
