In the article the possibilities of institutional analysis to investigate economic changes are investigated, line between the tradition of old and new institutional analysis is studied, the basic problems of methodology, limitation and assumption within the framework of these approaches are determined. Special attention is given to the critical examination of the idea of failure of the methodological individualism.
