Importance To gain a foothold in the international market, Russian businesses need to increase their innovative activities. Dynamic implementation of basic principles of research and technology advancement into the practice of economic agents may become a solution to the problem.
Objectives The purpose of the study is to show the increasing role of science and technology in the innovative security of modern businesses.
Methods General scientific methods of knowledge (dialectical, a combination of historical and logical unity, structural and functional analysis, traditional techniques of economic analysis and synthesis) and specific methods of evaluation of innovative security indicators served as the methodological basis of the research.
Results We define the main characteristics of the concept of innovative security of enterprises, present the structure of innovative potential and its indicators, show the role of intellectual capital in the risk-free innovation. The reviewed trends in scientific and technological development of the largest Russian companies (Gazprom, LUKOIL Oil Company, Rosneft, Russian Railways) enabled to determine its increasing role in the innovative safety of modern businesses. Based on the reviewed performance of innovative security of Gazprom, we offer the areas of the company's cooperation with basic higher schools of the country.
Conclusions The findings show that the most active participants of the Russian innovation market are industrial corporations like Gazprom, Rosneft, LUKOIL.
