Subject We consider regional specifics of strategic planning methods for socio-economic development. Objectives The article highlights the most significant features of strategic planning methods application for development of regions and formulates criteria for effective assessment. Methods To investigate the specifics of regional strategic development processes, we employ economic and mathematical, economic and statistical methods, using the correlation and factor analysis. Results We establish the most significant indicators that form the conditions for achieving the goals of socio-economic development. The paper compares actual and estimated values of GRP in the Central Federal District and in one of its regions. Conclusions The study enables to make up indicators that most significantly affect the level of socio-economic development of territories, reflect the special aspects of strategic planning processes, and help adjust the further development of regions. The offered methodology is universal and can be used to analyze strategic development of regions, make adjustments and obtain the most objective measures.
