Subject. In the modern world, portfolio investment is an integral part of cross-border capital movement. In the context of economic transformation, international investments have an increasing impact on the economic growth of each country, and regulation of investment activities is necessary to protect investors and the stability of financial markets.
Objectives. The study aims at researching and analyzing the portfolio investment regulation in the world practice, comparing the regulatory requirements in each country, and determining their impact on effective investment activities.
Methods. The validity and reliability of results of investigating the international experience in investment regulation are ensured by the use of normative and integrated approaches, comparative analysis, and presentation of statistical indicators and instrumental methods of grouping and sampling.
Results. We reviewed the legislative framework covering investment activities in Russia, the USA, Europe and the People's Republic of China. Each country regulates the requirements for investment activities in its own way. Nevertheless, regardless of the State, legislation is primarily focused on protecting the interests of investors, and ensuring fair market conditions.
Conclusions. An essential condition for ensuring the transparency of financial markets and effective redistribution of capital is the availability of regulatory framework, covering the investment sphere of activity.
