In the article on the basis of the analysis of structure and dynamics of a cumulative investment portfolio for 2001-2010 the priority directions of investment activity of the Russian insurance companies, and also strategic investment schemes in management and time intervals of their active application are defined. Directions of investment activity of the Russian insurance companies the majority from which have problem the focused character are designated. The complex of actions for optimization of investment activity of the Russian insurers is offered.
