Subject This article discusses the issues related to the genesis and regulation of systemically important banks.
Objectives The article aims to determine the reasons for the origin of the systemically important bank category, investigate the method of determining systemically important banks in Russia and their regulation by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
Methods For the study, we used the methods of analysis and synthesis, and the historical method.
Results The article presents certain specified aspects concerning systemically important banks and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation's requirements to their activities.
Conclusions The article concludes that the document Basel III: A Global Regulatory Framework for More Resilient Banks and Banking Systems has had a significant impact on the development of the banking system of the Russian Federation.
