Subject This article discusses the issues of estimating the digital economy in Russia in terms of performance and prior costs, and the development prospects considering the financial figures.
Objectives The article aims to review the modern-day definitions of the digital economy and methodological approaches to identifying its scope in Russia and abroad, and analyze the digital economy performance and investment figures and prospects for the increase of financial investments.
Methods For the study, I used the methods of analysis and synthesis of the official materials and statistics gathered from various research, legal, and statistics data sources.
Results The article presents an overview of the methods to define and estimate the digital economy abroad and in Russia. It contains analytical tables showing the range of the digital economy and investment. The article also analyzes the summarizing indicators of financial support for the National program on digital economy in the Russian Federation.
Conclusions and Relevance A common interpretation of the term Digital Economy in foreign and domestic science has not been developed so far. The actual financial indicators show that the Russian Federation is lagging behind the developed countries regarding the contribution of the digital economy to the country's gross domestic product. The results of the study can be used in further research in the field of evaluation of the financial components of the digital economy and are of interest to scientists, undergraduates, graduate students, whose area of research is related to the digital economy.
