Subject. This article considers the digital ruble as an additional form of the Russian national currency. Objectives. The article aims to consider the current problems of the essence of the digital ruble and its specific features. Methods. For the study, I used a systems approach, as well as analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, and the method of rising from the abstract to the concrete. Results. The article finds that the functioning of the digital ruble requires a perfect payment infrastructure, which will become the powerhouse of innovative solutions in the private sector and will be open to the introduction of the latest technologies as they arise. The infusion of digital currency into everyday life helps reduce costs for users and supports competition among banking institutions, as well as has a positive effect on the creation and use of advanced technologies and products by entrepreneurial structures. Conclusions. Thanks to the integration of the digital ruble into the financial ecosystem, it can be assumed that entrepreneurs will be able to offer consumers new, more convenient ways to make purchases and transfer money, including via the Internet, which in turn will support the development of e-commerce and modern forms of doing business. The digital ruble has all the necessary attributes to take the place of a new generation of means of payment, combining the advantages of traditional cash and non-cash payments.
