Objectives With the entrance of Russian organizations to the international markets, the requirement for skilled professionals able to apply new knowledge in their professional activities has increased. That is why the main objective of this research is the improvement of the system of professional education in Russia in the framework of the system of continuous professional education (CPE) of staff.

Results The article presents the hierarchical structure of modern information education technologies of training used in CPE systems. We grounded methodological approaches to training of professionals with a high level of professional competencies for each level of the modern information education technologies of training, as well as the educational resources and other educational tools, supporting active learning of specific volumes of new knowledge by professionals. We have identified the approaches to the formation of the final assessment of the achieved level of professional competencies and learning of a specialist.
