Importance This research focuses on the development of the conceptual scheme for monitoring the regional food security.
Objectives The research pursues timely identification of risks and threats in food security, and evaluation of the current and projected situations. I also attempt to devise a mechanism to furnish authorities with complete, comprehensive and unbiased information on the current state of the regional food security and its development trends so to elaborate and undertake measures of the State agricultural policy and subsequently ensure the region’s food security.
Methods The conceptual monitoring scheme involves methods of economic analysis, my own techniques for evaluation of the regional food security through integral indicators, and SWOT analysis.
Results I found the need to develop and test the conceptual scheme for monitoring the regional food security of the Arctic region of the Russian Federation. I devised the conceptual monitoring scheme to analyze and evaluate whether the food security system is susceptible to threats, and prevent the crisis situation in the region's food sector on an ongoing basis. The proposed scheme updates certain aspects of the challenging situation in the food security of the Arctic region specifically.
Conclusions and Relevance Annual monitoring practices will significantly increase the quality of information provided to regional authorities, and efficiency of managerial decisions taken to ensure the food security.
