Importance Despite the need to develop and improve the economic security mechanism, the Russian researchers make a great effort to build such mechanisms for entities, rather than for the State and constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Considering the crisis and economic downturn, the Russian regions see the escalation of social issues, decrease in the standards of living and growing tensions in the labor market. To smooth the adverse effects, it is necessary to make decisions for improving the regional economic structure, supporting certain sectors and luring investors. Such actions will contribute to the regional economic security. Objectives The research infers recommendations for the regional economic security (a constituent entity of the Russian Federation) referring to the Perm Krai. Methods The research involves analysis of theoretical sources, statistical analysis, comparison, SWOT-analysis. Statistical analysis is the most crucial step since these are statistical databases where the information about the current economic situation and welfare sector of the region can be obtained. Results I determine what constitutes economic security and performed a comparative analysis of the economic security of the Perm Krai and some other regions. Conclusions and Relevance The economic security of the Perm Krai is rather frail due to adverse effects of the external environment (common for the entire economy of Russia during the recent years). There are some pending issues fueling the adverse effects. The findings can be of practical value for governmental institutions at the regional level so as to make economic security decisions.
