Subject The article discusses theoretical, methodological and applied approaches to raising the sustainability of socio-economic systems through controllable sensitivity and response elements.
Objectives The research is to provide the theoretical and methodological rationale for setting and running the regional socio-economic system, which would be adaptable to current developments and more sensitive and responsive in terms of its sustainability.
Methods We analyze the existing approaches to ensuring the security and sustainable development of the region, theoretical and methodological aspects of the process. The research involves general (abstraction, analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction) and partial methods of cognition, which are used to test the original methodology.
Results We determined conditions required for sustainability and stability of economic systems using the linear matrix inequality and Lyapunov non-square vector functions. The sustainability conditions were proved to have a wider scope of application as compared with those ones described in literature. We conducted a comparative analysis of the economy in three regions, and give a comparative view of their sustainability.
Conclusions and Relevance We offer a comprehensive approach to studying socio-economic systems so as to outline the framework for studying the regions’ development as thoroughly as possible, substantiate and propose effective managerial decisions to achieve goals of sustainable development and security. They are to include the system for quick response to external and internal threats and challenges in case of macroeconomic and institutional changes. Our algorithm for stabilizing comprehensive economic systems can be used both in a certain business and geographical entity and a country as whole.
