Subject Fierce competition in all aerospace markets makes the Western companies upgrade their products and cut costs continuously, inter alia, cooperating with rivals to launch new products within a shorter period of time and share risks of certain projects. The optimal strategy ensures the sustainable development of corporations in high competition markets, growth in labor productivity and value of stocks. Objectives The research analyzes methods for increasing the quality of development strategies and governmental programs for aviation and aerospace sectors of the Russian Federation in order to ensure the national economic security. Methods The research employs the comparative analysis of development strategies of leading global and Russian aerospace corporations. Results Drawing upon elaborate development strategies, the Western aerospace corporations ensure the sustainable growth in economic indicators in compliance with global trends (total revenue, sales, shareholder value). Conclusions and Relevance As the competition intensifies in the global aerospace market, it is useful to review alternative development strategies of the aviation and aerospace sectors of Russia, revitalize the domestic competition (at least in the Soviet manner), and practice a more conscientious approach to diversifying aviation and aerospace holding groups.
