Subject The national economic security should be preserved not only to keep the regional approach to managing some areas, but also to creating proper conditions for the equal socio-economic development of constituent entities. The significant differentiation of the Russian constituent entities undermines the national security and urges to find new forms and methods for supporting those regions that demonstrate the low rate of socio-economic development and cannot be versatile due to the economic disparity.
Objectives The study aims to determine spatial activities to make the constituent entities of the Siberian Federal District less different and ensure the economic security.
Methods The article is based on principles of a systems approach, methods of statistical and economic analysis.
Results The study provides the theoretical rationale for spatial measures to reduce the differentiation of the constituent entities in the Siberian Federal District and ensure their economic security. We analyzed all activities undertaken and intended to decrease the cross-regional differentiation of socio-economic development. We supplemented the list of spatial measures and suggested evaluating an institutional mismatch that may be seen as part of national and federal projects to accelerate the economic growth and reduce the economic differentiation of regions.
Conclusions and Relevance At every step of federal and regional programs, governmental authorities should not only monitor and evaluate the attainment of target indicators, but also analyze possible institutional mismatches at the mesoeconomic level, since their undermine the performance of institutions.
