The paper analyzes the investment activity of the regions of the Russian Federation by federal districts in 2002 and 2012. The analysis results in the defined rating and place taken by them in the corresponding periods of time. Following the results of the conducted research, the author submits a comparative description of investment activities of the regions of the Russian Federation for 2002 and 2012, revealing changes of both positive and negative character.
