Subject The subject of the research is innovation activities of the largest industrial region of the Russian Federation, i.e. the Nizhny Novgorod region.
     Objectives The purpose of the work is the assessment of the status and dynamics of innovation in the region, identifying problems and factors in the development of innovation activities.
     Methods We conducted the study with the use of statistical methods for the assessment of phenomena and processes, including the methods of structural analysis, time series analysis and comparative analysis. As the source of the data we used the official websites of the Federal State Statistics Service, the territorial authority of the Federal State Statistics Service in the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
     Results The result of the study is the analytical tables and conclusions reflecting the status and trends of the development of innovational activity in the region, its public support and growth factors.
     Practical Application The analytical tables and conclusions obtained may be used in the formulation of recommendations and mechanisms for innovation and development in other regions, preparation of lectures and presentations on socio-economic development of the region. The materials of the article represent certain interest to potential investors of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the field of innovation.
     Conclusions and Relevance We conclude that the active position of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the field of support and development of innovation is aiming at the successful development of the region, creating and maintaining its image. The Nizhny Novgorod region is making a significant contribution to the national objectives of growth of the national economy on the basis of the innovation way of development.
