Importance The article studies the trade processes between countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the relevance of which grows in connection with the development of Eurasian integration.
Objectives The paper aims to detect the long-term trends in the regional market of the Commonwealth of Independent States, evaluate the trading positions of the countries of the region, and analyze the prerequisites and economic motivations of their participation in Eurasian integration.
Methods The econometric methods, by using which I analyzed the data on two-way trade between the CIS countries on the gravity equation basis, were a methodological basis of the research.
Results I tested the gravity model of regional trade among the CIS countries, based on the panel data. I calculated the factors of trade potential implementation for 2001–2013 and interpreted the results of econometric studies in terms of mutual trade of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. My paper presents certain tendencies in mutual trade of the CIS countries.

Keywords: regional trade, gravity equation in trade, Commonwealth of Independent States, export, region
