Importance The article deals with the problems of development of mineral resources of the Far Eastern Federal District.
Objectives The paper aims to identify and rank the challenges of the ore mineral sector in the Far Eastern region and identify constraints to the development of the industry and its prospects.
Methods For the study, I used retrospective factual, comparative, and systems analyses.
Results I identified and ranked the problems of ore mineral resources development in the region: the lack of industry diversification, processing, spatial dispersion of deposits and mining complex, geographic and economic conditions, the low degree of geological knowledge of the territory and the lack of large deposits of minerals. As well I identified the factors affecting the development of the industry, and its prospects.
Conclusions and Relevance I conclude that there is a need for the rational utilization of mineral resources and the industry diversification. The results of the research can be used to develop strategies for the development and reproduction of mineral resources in the region.
