Subject The article reviews price-related and other factors of demand for regional air flights in Russia, proposition of aviation companies and the composition of regional airlines, the potential for further growth in regional air flights. Objectives The research outlines recommendations for improving the regional air traffic in Russia. Methods I conduct a comparative analysis of regional air traffic in major countries and Russia. Results In Russia, the demand for international air traffic begins to tend to domestic traffic. The national government is noted to pay greater attention to the national civil aircraft engineering. Regional airline companies increase the occupancy rates in large long-range aircraft and total efficiency of passenger air traffic. Conclusions Considering the low growth rate of GDP and public well-being respectively in Russia, passenger air flights will demonstrate a sustainable increase only if regional traffic intensifies. Airports in large cities were modernized, and the program for rehabilitation of regional airports and aircraft engineering was adopted by regional enterprises that do not strongly depend on components and parts manufactured abroad. The government supports initiatives that are vital for the national socio-economic sustainability.
