Subject This article deals with self-employment as a key factor to reduce the number of unemployed people in the labor markets of the regions of Russia.
Objectives The article aims to explore the issues of self-employment as the main direction of business development and improving the quality of life in the border regions.
Methods For the study, I used the methods of statistical analysis.
Conclusions and Relevance Small business has always withstood competition with big business due to the ability to create jobs with less initial financial investments and rapid return on investment. Studying the phenomenon of self-employment in the border areas of Russia can help form a basis for further research on the problems of entrepreneurship taking into account the socio-cultural features of the development of the regions and labor markets of Russia. Self-employment can be a generator of new transformations in the development of small forms of business and the basis for realizing long-term priorities for the development of depressed labor markets.
