Subject This article examines the position of the Republic of Bashkortostan in the Russian economy in terms of human development.
Objectives The article aims to assess the human development of the Republic of Bashkortostan and determine the areas of regulation of further development.
Methods The article ranks regions by Human Development, Longevity, Income Level, and Education Indices.
Results The article shows that for several years the Human Development Index of the Republic of Bashkortostan had a value above the Russian average. Since 2007, however, the Republic has begun giving way to other fast emerging regions of Russia.
Conclusions The Republic of Bashkortostan is among the top regions in the ranking of the Russian Federation subjects for human development. It pursues policies aimed at preserving and developing human potential. However, the Republic is characterized by a high internal heterogeneity, which is expressed in socio-economic and territorial differentiation.
