Subject. This article discusses the contribution of the tourism industry to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
Objectives. The article aims to analyze the economic potential of the Russian tourism industry and develop recommendations for improving its investment attractiveness.
Methods. For the study, we used the methods of statistical analysis.
Results. Tourism, as a sector of the economy, has suffered the most from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic tourism has become its main type both in Russia and in the world.
Conclusions. For Russia, as a leader in food exports to the world market, sustainable development of rural areas is vital. The development of agricultural, ecological and health tourism will contribute to economic growth.
