Subject. This article discusses the development of the economy of the northern and Arctic areas of Russia. Objectives. The article aims to study the possibilities of improving the quality of life of the population of the Far North of Russia and equivalent territories considering the Krasnoyarsk Krai. Methods. For the study, we used the expert assessment method, logical, and statistical analyses. Results. The article systematizes the specific features of the socio-economic development of the northern and Arctic regions of the Krasnoyarsk Krai. Conclusions. The specifics of the Arctic zone, its place and role in the socio-economic development of the State create the prerequisites for the allocation of the macroregion as an independent subject of strategic planning.
